We renovated a well-worn kitchen and dining room that suffered from a hodge-podge of mismatched flooring, wall covering, and low hanging cabinets (doors askew), and elevated the space to a DeVol inspired eat-in kitchen.
A key to the project was the removal of the chimney, and the use of an odd angular space above the basement stairs to create a wall of stepped cabinets utilizing the void to include a built-in oven, pantry storage, and a custom stained glass window maximizing this small challenging space.
While function played a role, form drove the bus. In turn, a dramatic swooping soapstone backsplash frames a denim blue Lacanche range, and like artisan jewelry, Rocky Mountain’s unlacquered brass hardware adds texture and depth. The beaded inset walnut island, rubbed with a greige Rubio Monocoat finish, and a leathered Breccia marble countertop add more unusual shades that warm the heart of the home. At every turn, this space reveals unique and thoughtful design choices resulting in a kitchen that is all at once functional, inviting and sophisticated.
